Brazil’s Atlantic HDD landfall : Granite, heat, and over 1 km of HDD !

8 Oct 2026 | Oil & Gas

Reaming operations for Equinor’s HDD landfall construction are now in full swing, and we’re incredibly proud of the role OPTIMUM has played in reaching this important milestone.

With more than 1 km of HDD being constructed in the Atlantic Ocean’s granite and gneiss seabed, success requires far more than equipment alone. It takes experience, preparation, and the right people at the right time.

So back in January – before heatwaves became headline news across Europe, but while temperatures in Brazil were already exceeding 35°C – OPTIMUM’s casing expert, Guillaume Bezombes, spent two weeks on site alongside HDI and INTECH teams ensuring the successful installation of an impressive 129 metres of steel casing, deployed in telescopic sections.

Then came the turn of trenchless engineer Quentin Garnier, who monitored the evolution of drilling parameters onsite through the initial phase of pilot hole operations, providing critical oversight for a project of such complexity.

A strong start often determines the outcome. And when the challenges are this big, having trusted experts alongside the drill team makes all the difference.
