GRTgaz’s HDD crossing under the Limoges – Angoulême railway line is now complete. The 160-metre-long construction, housing a DN150 steel pipe, replaces the existing pipe bridge thus increasing pipeline security and enhancing the surrounding rural area.
The geology of site (highly abrasive gneisses) as well as an 11-metre height difference between the entry and exit points combined to make for a challenging project.
OPTIMUM engineers were ideally placed to supervise the construction works having previously carried out the detailed feasibility studies (G2 PRO) and accompanied GRTgaz during the contractor selection phase. Working round the clock, a dedicated team of OPTIMUM trenchless specialists was onsite at all times, supervising not only the drilling parameters but also the Sixense monitoring system put in place to ensure that the integrity of the railway platform was maintained throughout.
Meticulous monitoring and excellent teamwork allowed the HDD construction to be completed ahead of schedule; mission accomplished
