OPTIMUM has been supporting Eiffage over recent weeks on a different sort of mission: the demolition of an ageing ovoid sewer section to make way for a new storm overflow valve chamber.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n This crucial work, just north of Paris, will ensure the Conseil D\u00e9partemental des Hauts de Seine\u2019s wastewater network is future\u2011proof and able to withstand the increasingly fluctuating \u2014 and unpredictable \u2014 water levels of the River Seine. The project was never going to be easy, but simplicity wasn\u2019t the goal \u2014 security was.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n One of the most delicate operations \u2014 excavating around and removing the old sewer section, then installing a temporary retaining structure for the new chamber \u2014 is now complete, despite multiple challenges:<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n To secure the excavation, the team designed a temporary retaining structure combining slide\u2011rail and timber boards \u2014 an unconventional but adaptive solution shaped by the site\u2019s specific constraints.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n OPTIMUM engineers didn\u2019t just \u201ccheck\u201d the design. Through a G3 mission, they provided key insight, ensuring construction stability and jobsite safety despite the proximity of the River Seine. Their work ensured the complex site remained a controlled environment \u2014 and kept the project moving forward.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n The temporary structure is now complete, and construction of the permanent chamber can continue with confidence.
