The CanaMarne project is entering its final phase, the last of the AVN 1800 tunnels having been completed this week. This latest gravity flow tunnel runs 500 metres underneath agricultural land and a major canal to the east of Paris. Works spanned 5 weeks, with teams negotiating the complexities linked to an entry shaft\u00a0 24 metres deep. <\/strong><\/p>\n Tunnelling through marl and gravel, as well as slope colluvium towards the exit, the main challenge was inevitably the changing geology and the resulting shifts in the mechanical properties of the soil.<\/p>\n Just two smaller AVN 1000 microtunnels now remain on this ambitious project: improving drainage around Paris Charles de Gaulle airport by redirecting rainwater to a treatment plant and then out to the River Marne.<\/p>\n OPTIMUM has been proud to support SADE\u2019s CanaMarne team throughout the project, from works preparation to completion.
