Once connected, this will create the first ever direct power link between Germany and the United Kingdom.<\/p>\n<p>Drilling through essentially silty clay soils, 3 parallel 420-metre-long HDD landfall crossings were completed to house DN400 HDPE ducts where the subsea cables will transition to the onshore underground cables in Kent, England.<\/p>\n<p>HDI commissioned OPTIMUM to support them with the landfall on the UK side both before and during the drilling operations: definition of a geotechnical base model, hydrofracture analysis modelling, as well as validation \/ adjustment of working methods, drilling tools and risk mitigation procedures. Ballast calculations ahead of time minimised pipe\/ground friction, ensuring the integrity and longevity of the installation.
