1300m microtunnelling safeguards strategic gas supply

11 Dec 2025 | Oil & Gas

OPTIMUM is proud to have accompanied NaTran throughout the trenchless works — a combined 1300m across two microtunnel crossings — successfully completed yesterday near Aix-en-Provence in southern France.

Installed at more than 25m deep, this crossing will ensure the integrity of NaTran’s DN750 pipeline against river erosion and deviations for years to come.

The works – carried out by SADE, using HK AVN 1800 machines – crossed not only under the river, but also a motorway ramp, protected woodland, a flood barrier and vineyards.

OPTIMUM engineers have supported NaTran on this project since its inception in 2019, with feasibility studies, engineering design, as well as during the purchasing and contractor selector phase. Despite challenges during the construction phase, their trenchless expertise enabled solutions to be found taking into account the site’s numerous constraints and complex geological conditions.
