Microtunnel under France’s busiest transport links

5 Sep 2024 | Electricity

Completion this week of an important phase of RTE’s Envision project with the successful installation of a 130-metre-long microtunnel near Arras in northern France.

Within the framework of the project owner’s network extension, the DN1200 microtunnel now passes under both the Paris – Lille highspeed railway tracks as well as the 6-lane A1 motorway, two of the country’s busiest transport links.

OPTIMUM have worked on the project since its infancy, from the initial feasibility studies to the microtunnel design, the contractor selection phase and now the supervision of construction works.

Tunnelling through chalk between 8 – 10 metres underneath the railway tracks called for the highest levels of vigilance and continuous monitoring of the railway platform ; dedicated OPTIMUM engineers were onsite 24h/24 during this critical and delicate part of the operation.

Great preparation and cooperation enabled the works to be completed ahead of schedule ; congratulations to everyone involved : @ RTE, SADE TS, Socotec Monitoring.
