Construction of the onshore link from the coast to RTE’s converter station is in full swing. The 84-metre-long AVN 1200 microtunnel section under the River Élorn and the Paris – Brest railway is now complete and the cable ducts installed.
After the successful completion of the landfall works on the French Brittany coast, OPTIMUM turned its attention to the microtunnel. OPTIMUM engineers monitored construction of the entry / exit shafts and were on hand throughout the microtunnel operations, providing technical expertise to both project owner, RTE, and the construction team from Eiffage. Tunnelling under the railway, through slate schist below the water table had its challenges, so teamwork was key to success.
With only an HDD crossing left to go early next year, completion of all the trenchless work for this ambitious project is now in sight !
